The AbilityFirst Stroll & Roll fundraising event is presented by Comerica Bank and is a fabulous day of fun, exercise, and community involvement that brings people together from all walks of life. Last year nearly 2,000 people including participants from our programs and their families as well as individuals from dozens of Southern California businesses joined together to walk through the Universal Studios Backlot. Stroll & Roll is the largest fundraising event for AbilityFirst last year we raised more than $843,000 to provide programs and services to children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities. Please join us and help us break the $920,000 fundraising mark!

Directions from the East (Pasadena/Claremont/etc.): Take the 134 Freeway West. Exit Lankershim Blvd. and turn left onto Lankershim Blvd. south. You will be on Lankershim for approx. 0.8 miles. Once you cross the bridge over the Los Angeles River you will turn left onto River Road, which is a small street. If you have come to Universal Hollywood Dr. you have driven too far. At River Road you will see a guard station. Show your AbilityFirst Stroll & Roll parking pass and they will guide you into the parking structure where you will park.
Directions from the West (Encino/Woodland Hills/etc.): Take the 101 South. Off the 101 South, take exit 12A for Lankershim Blvd/Universal City. Turn right on Cahuenga Blvd. Then turn right onto Lankershim Blvd. You will cross Universal Hollywood Dr. and turn right into River Road, which is a small street. You will see a guard station. Show your AbilityFirst Stroll & Roll parking pass and they will guide you into the parking structure where you will park.
Directions from the South (Los Angeles/Orange County): Take the 101 North. Take exit 12A for Lankershim Blvd/Universal City. Turn right onto Lankershim Blvd. You will cross Universal Hollywood Dr. and turn right into River Road, which is a small street. You will see a guard station. Show your AbilityFirst Stroll & Roll parking pass and they will guide you into the parking structure where you will park.
Metro: There is a convenient red line metro station to Universal Studios, but unfortunately, it is quite some distance from the event location and Universal will not let you walk onto the Backlot. Please consider driving or carpooling with someone from your center or team.
You will find enclosed a Parking Pass that must be displayed on your car dashboard and a map of where the River Road Guard Station is located. Please follow the directions above to ensure you do not get lost.
Once you are parked in the River Road parking lot (previously 2160 lot) you will head to the 1st Floor of the parking structure to the front of the building where parking trams will pick you up. Must show ID to enter the back lot.
The trams will be running from 6:00 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. on a direct route to the start line. After 6:45 a.m., the trams will need to reroute around the park, which will take longer. There is a chance that if you arrive after 6:40 a.m. you may miss the 7:30 a.m. start time, so please park and be on the tram prior to 6:45 a.m.
The trams will return people to their cars starting at 8:30 a.m. and will continue until 1:00 p.m. All cars must exit the 2160 parking lot by 2:00 p.m. If guests are going to the theme park for the day, they MUST move their cars up Universal Hollywood Dr. and park in the theme park parking structures.
Check-in & Registration
- Guests that have a bib and t-shirt do NOT need to check-in. Please proceed to your group meeting area.
- Guests that have registered on the website, but need to pick up a bib or t-shirt must come to the Check-in Booth prior to 7:00 a.m.
- Guests that have NOT registered, but wish to join us that day will need to come to the Registration Booth prior to 7:00 a.m. There will be a $50 charge that day for anyone that registers.
If you are walking with an AbilityFirst center or with a corporate team, please look for your group's designated meeting area. Each group will have a sign posted where members of the team can meet up and take a group photo. Group photos will begin around 6:45 a.m., so be there promptly to be included in the photo.
Expo/Universal Studios raffle
There will a bounce house and plenty of carnival games and prizes to entertain the entire family. Free massages, unlimited photo booth print outs, and activities! You may purchase raffle tickets at the AbilityFirst booth for a chance to win 4 Universal Studios Hollywood tickets and 4 Front of Line passes. Tickets are 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. Winning ticket will be pulled at 9:30 am the morning of the event. You do not need to be present to win.
- AbilityFirst will be providing walkers with complementary coffee and continental breakfast throughout the day
- The Grilled Cheese Truck, Stella's Breakfast Burrito Truck and Kettle Corn Angels will be available for anyone interested in purchasing breakfast/lunch items. Ranging from $5-$9
- There will be 3 rest/water stations on the course.
- Restrooms: There will be Restroom Stops along the Route.
The course route is subject to change due to the production schedule of the backlot. The NEW route is about a 2 mile distance starting at New York Street, going through Jaws Lake, Bates Motel, and European Square, among other movie backdrop sets.
Route FUN: Scavenger Hunt for 5ft tall Vangaurd aka AbilityFirst jumping man; Find all 5 Vangaurds positioned throughout the routes and EXPO, take a photo with each and tag AbilityFirst in your social media posts.
This year, we will have three (3) finish line options: 1) A general straight away finish line. 2) A 60ft long inflatable obstacle course ending with a slide - NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 3yrs AND MUST LEAVE SHOES ON. 3) An accessible fun obstacle course great for ambulatory and non-ambulatory individuals alike.

Do Not Bring
The following items are not allowed: Pets (unless they are licensed service animals), air horns/megaphones, musical instruments or noise making devices, bicycles, scooters, tricycles, hover board Segway, beer/alcohol, weapons, or anything that may cause harm to others.
General registration is $35 per person and includes an event t-shirt, breakfast and access to the backlot for the walk.
Online registration will close Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
Late registration (after March 29th) will be $50 per person and can be done at the registration booth at the event.
